When the 2011 Mustang GT came out, we figured that's it, they can't make this car any better. Boy, were we wrong. To say the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 is an improvement over the Mustang GT is like saying a Top Fuel dragster is kinda quick, or Robert De Niro is just another actor.
From the second you turn the red key and the Boss rumbles to life, you feel and hear the loapy cam idle and you know you're in for some fun. We headed to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to see if the new Boss is as good as Ford says it is. We ran full laps around Laguna, flat out as hard as we wanted, to really get a true sense of the difference between a GT and the Boss 302.

Across the giant oval conference table from Volkswagen board member Christian Klingler and myself (I happened to be seated next to him) was a row of mostly New Age green-car journalists wearing expressions of absolute disbelief. We've said it in print. We've said it to Mercedes-Benz. We've told our friends. We've even admitted it to our therapist: The Mercedes-Benz R-Class has a weight problem. Tipping the scales (tipping them over, actually) at around two and a half tons, the R has no natural enemies in the automotive arena — it looks like a Sumo station wagon, but any BMW or Audi luxury wagon you'd try to put it up against would get lost in its massive shadow. And while the all-wheel-drive R-Class is built alongside the M-Class and G-Class SUVs in Alabama, nothing about it makes you want to even consider putting dirt under its wheels (a fantasy you might entertain with a Porsche Cayenne).

A tool is an object designed to do a particular kind of work. The type of work the 2007 Acura TL is designed to do is maintain its leading sales position within the Acura lineup and close the gap on the entry-lux sport sedan sales leader, the BMW 3 Series. While Acura is pleased with current TL progress, holding steady at around 80,000 units a year, it seems the product planners at Acura have been watching the success of their recently rereleased European and Japanese counterparts in the entry-lux segment. BMW 3 Series sales shot up at the end of 2005, and the new Lexus IS Series is gaining ground every day. Infiniti just made public the all-new G35 and we predict nothing but well-deserved success.

Jaguar will take on the Porsche 918 on the road, if not the track, with its C-X75 hybrid supercar, Its name will change, and Jaguar will build just 250 examples at a price of 700,000 pounds or more, depending on the market and taxes. That "base" price comes to $1.151 million based on recent exchange rates. Orders will be taken this fall, with deliveries beginning in late 2013.
