2013 Chevrolet Malibu
2013 Chevrolet Malibu

No new model has General Motors more concerned about the success of its launch than the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The Volt? No, as ground-breaking and politically divisive as that car is, there's little doubt Chevy will be able to sell all of them, from the 10,000 or so expected in the first year to 30,000-40,000 per year as production slowly ramps up.

First Test: 2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD

As you've surely seen by now, the new 2011 Silverado HD lineup looks a lot like the old one. But don't let that fool you-Chevrolet made several significant changes to its heavy-duty line of trucks, which make the pickups run cleaner, tow more, and allows them to be more capable. The new Silverado 3500HD can tow as much as 21,700 pounds with a payload capacity of 6635 pounds. GM also redesigned the independent front suspension, increasing the front axle weight rating and making all 4WD models snowplow-ready. And with all of the performance, ride, and capability changes for the 2011 model year, we were eager to find out how the new pickups perform. Chevrolet provided us with a four-wheel-drive 2500HD LT extended cab with the 6.0-liter Vortec V-8 and a rear-drive 3500HD LT crew cab dualie with the 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel.

Oh come, ye armchair engineers. Tell us that removing a stressed member as important as the roof is bad. Regale us with stories of chassis flex and cowl shake.
We will listen. Then we will politely disagree and point to the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible as evidence. Counterintuitive though it may be to the number crunchers, cutting off the roof has made the Camaro a better car.

Comparison: 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible vs. 2011 Ford Mustang GT Convertible

What we have here is some Alanis Morissette-style irony. No, not ra-ay-ain on your wedding day. Rather, it's the one week when you have a pair of RWD, manny-trannied, V-8 powered, 400-plus horsepower convertible ponycars and Southern California decides to experience the "Storm of the Decade." Did I mention both cars had summer tires? Unlike Alanis's song, ironic isn't the word we'd use, and we can't print the one we would. But like Hunter S. Thompson alluded to, we're here to cover the story. Reviewing convertibles with the sun shining (so to speak) is sine qua non. Knowing that we simply had to remove the roofs despite the inclement weather, we donned full rain gear, dropped them tops and drove the new Camaro SS Convertible and Mustang GT Convertible in the pouring rain. The whole ordeal is a great lesson in making lemonade out of flash floods and mudslides. Besides, can you think of anything more fun than flinging these two mamma-jammas around in the wet while dressed up like the Gorton's Fisherman? Neither could we.

Don't feel bad about it. I don't. Few mortal men are truly man enough to drive the Z06. In fact, if the phrase "Professional Race Car Driver" doesn't appear on your resume, don't even bother. (And "race car driver" doesn't apply to your Spec Miata, or that clunker you and your friends drag to LeMons. If it ain't televised, it doesn't count.)

Ahead of its public debut at the Bangkok Auto Show, General Motors has taken the wraps off of the preview version of its next-generation midsize pickup, which has been (not so) imaginatively dubbed the Chevrolet Colorado Show Truck.

Remember the Chevy Uplander? Of course you don't. Uplander was Chevy's last-and some say pathetic-attempt to take on the swashbuckling duo known as the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey. Poor sales led Chevy to kill the Uplander and exit the minivan segment entirely back in 2008-the same year the Traverse came on the scene.

A lime green Camaro SS with a supercharged whine, aggressive bodykit, writing on the windshield, and the number 13 on its side would draw stares even in downtown Detroit. We're not in Detroit, though, or even the United States.
