Chrysler Gets its Own Italian Compact
Giulietta-Based Model to Get More Power Four CylinderLast month, we told you that Chrysler Group's 40-mpg Fiat-based car will be a Dodge, codenamed PF. The car is a drawn-and-quartered Alfa Romeo Giulietta (pictured), with a longer wheelbase, wider body, and wider tracks. It will feature a 1.4-liter MultiAir four rated at least 40 mpg highway, a provision that allows Fiat Auto to gain an additional 5-percent interest in Chrysler.

We hear the Chrysler brand will get a version of this drawn-and-quartered Giulietta as well, though it will likely come with a larger four-cylinder engine standard, as it's not required to achieve the 5-percent stake. It is codenamed Chrysler PG. Consider the way General Motors is giving the Buick Verona a 2.4-liter four as a base engine, instead of the Chevrolet Cruze's 1.4-liter turbo and 1.8-liter engines.

The Chrysler PG is being designed for the North American and Chinese markets as a three-box sedan. In western Europe, it will be Lancia's replacement for the Delta compact, probably called the Fulvia in sedan form and Delta in hatchback form.
