Peugeot has unveiled the new 3008 HYbrid4, the world’s first diesel "full hybrid" vehicle. The new model’s hybrid powertrain combines a 2.0 liter 163 bhp HDi diesel engine and a 37 bhp electric motor.

Everything Alan Mulally has learned, experienced, and changed at Ford Motor Company is encompassed in the 2011 Ford Explorer. A bestseller at 400,000-plus per year in the '90s, the Explorer met its automotive Waterloo during the Firestone tread-separation debacle. Sales of the body-on-frame Explorer dwindled to 52,190 in 2009, as Ford was launching its new Taurus. Ford redesigned the sedan far beyond its original intentions, though retaining the Volvo-derived D4 platform. Now, thanks to Mulally's push for quicker updates of Ford models, it's the Explorer's turn.

Given the variety of shapes and sizes in Audi's portfolio, from the petite A1 to the bulky Q7, you'd think the German automaker already had a vehicle for every niche. There are a few more to be filled, though, such as the compact luxury crossover segment, where the all-new 2012 Audi Q3 will do battle against BMW's recently launched X1. Audi first showcased the future Q3 with its Cross Coupe Quattro concept during the 2007 Shanghai auto show, and its production descendant is coming back to this year's Shanghai show for its reveal.

Even though many of them are now working on hybrids, European automakers’ response to gasoline-electric vehicles—long championed by Japanese companies—has been to first scoff and then to point to their robust lineups of fuel-efficient diesel powertrains. Of course, diesels represent about 50 percent of the market in Europe, but they have never been offered widely in America. Fluctuating fuel prices are slowly beginning to change that, and although Euro diesels recently launched in the States have been installed in sedans and SUVs, small oil burners make sense, too. After all, if a premium sedan with the economy of a compact is impressive, let’s see what happens when you drop a diesel into a compact.

An IPO would take Ferrari public as a separate entity from Fiat Group and would allow Fiat to sell-off part of the luxury automaker to raise money while still holding a controlling interest in the brand. But how much is Ferrari worth?
