Gmc / GM announces warranty for Chevy Volt battery

GM announces warranty for Chevy Volt battery
General Motors recently announced that it will be offering an eight year or 100,000 mile warranty on the battery that will power the electric Chevrolet Volt.

The warranty for the 400-pound lithium ion battery back is similar to the ones offered on the nickel-metal hydride batteries that were offered with the first generation of hybrid and electric cars like the Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The Volt has been called a “range-extended” electric car, meaning that it can travel up to 40 miles on its battery power alone. For longer car rides, the vehicle’s 1.4 liter, four cylinder engine starts up, giving the Volt a range of 300 miles before the battery needs recharging.

A General Motors representative declined to tell the news source what it will cost to replace a battery once it has worn out, but replacements for current hybrid vehicles range between $3,000 and $7,000, reports the news source.

If drivers choose to buy one of these fuel effecient vehicles they should consider getting a car loan at an online direct to consumer auto finance provider.
