2010 Audi TT RS Officially Unleashed with Well Over 300bhp
Regardless of almost endless spy pictures and other evidence, Audi stood firm on its denials of the existence of the TT RS. Who can blame them; no automaker ever admits that spy photographers are right. Although now, Audi has said a mouthful regarding the TT RS range. Most of it is already known but the most sought after details are kept mum.
The TT RS will use a five-cylinder 2.5-litre turbo engine for its quattro drivetrain. But here is where it gets a little sketchy. Audi says the car produces "well above 300bhp (224kW)" which is not much to say actually. Another important figure for the performance sector is the 100 km/h (62.14 mph) sprint time. Again details are at best in the grey zone with Audi only committing to saying it needs nowhere near 5 seconds to clock that sprint time.
Other particulars are more forthcoming, like the fact that the TT RS has a largely aluminium body, big brakes, a highly sophisticated chassis and direct petrol injection. Plus it can reach an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h (155mph). Complete facts will come to light at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show which starts in just over a week.

This top model will debut at the Geneva Auto Show
Direct gasoline injection and a turbocharger deliver far more than 300 bhp
Top-notch chassis, big brakes, and quattro drivetrain
Audi is once again producing a five-cylinder powerhouse: the Audi TT RS will be unveiled to the world at the Geneva Auto Show. Its turbocharged 2.5-liter engine produces well above 300 bhp. It also delivers explosive acceleration, driving delight, and unrivalled sound.
A legend is reborn. After all, powerful five-cylinder gasoline engines have a long legacy at Audi. And the turbocharged direct-fuel-injection engine in the TT RS is the new torchbearer of this dynamic tradition. It enables the TT RS to perform extraordinary feats. For example, it needs nowhere near five seconds to reach 100 km/h (62.14 mph); overtaking is child’s play; and 250 km/h (155.34 mph) is the limited top speed only on paper.
The quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, a sophisticated chassis, and stupendous brakes keep a tight rein on the power. All in all, the compact TT RS – with its lightweight and largely aluminum body constructed as per the Audi Space Frame principle – is a driving machine to be reckoned with.
Additional information will be available during the Audi Press Conference at the Geneva Auto Show on March 3, 2009 (Hall 1, Booth 1060).

And I"m guessing 0-100 time in about 4.5 seconds. Easily!

if it"s "nowhere near" 5 seconds, then it would stand to reason that it would be less than 4.5 seconds, right? well the R8 does 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds, and will be around double the price of this car... will Audi let the TT-RS step on big brother"s toes that much?
and i still don"t understand where this is targeted. the TT competes with cars like the SLK and Z4, and the S- and RS- models are meant to be positioned slightly above and slightly below the AMG and M offerings from Merc and BMW. the SLK350 produces 306bhp, making it 34bhp more powerful than the TT-S, and the SLK55 AMG produces 360 bhp, which is considerably more than 300bhp but probably more than the TT-RS generates so where exactly is this being pitched?
