Porsche’s plans for hybrid road vehicles are nothing new—the company plans to introduce a hybrid Cayenne SUV in the truck’s next generation, as well as a hybrid version of its Panamera sedan—but at the Geneva auto show, the German sports-car king will introduce a hybrid race car based on its 911 GT3 R. It’s no mere concept, either. Following its debut, the car will head to the Nürburgring, where it will compete in the 24-hour race on May 15 and 16.

Proving that evolution never stops, even among things that appear to be rather highly evolved already, is the upcoming 2011 Aptera 2e. The space-age three-wheeler may have been delayed “to align with financing realities,” but while Aptera’s suits are out shaking money from trees (and the government), the engineers and designers have been busy evolving the two-seater to make it more livable once it is finally ready for prime time.

The previous-generation Legacy was a great driver’s car, especially within the family-sedan market. Standard all-wheel drive offered all-weather security and the chassis felt lively, but the car suffered from weak fuel economy and a tight back seat. Indeed, the shortcomings made it seem as though Legacy buyers were making a sacrifice simply by purchasing the car, opting to join a secret Subie society instead of purchasing a more sensible, practical model from another manufacturer.
