Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Design Concept - Car News

Jaguar’s 75th-anniversary festivities include enjoying “featured marque” status at the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which the company commemorated by displaying a tricked-out, one-off XJ it calls the XJ75 Platinum Design Concept.

The matte pearl-white paint on this XJL Supercharged—along with pretty much everything else you can see—is unique to this car. “Unique” also applies to the black or black-chrome trim on all the shiny exterior parts, ground effects, and 22-inch matte-finished black and silver wheels.

Inside, the cabin features black diamond-stitched leather upholstery with suede inserts and a diamond-stitched headliner. Splashes of contrast appear here and there, including white air vents and purple lining the center console and glove box. The final touch is an elegant Bremont timepiece set into the dash.

The XJ75 Platinum remains a concept at this point, but don’t be surprised if Jaguar announces a limited run of, say, 75 units in the near future. (The company kicked off its birthday celebration with the announcement of the XKR175 in June.) After all, there is very little here that would be difficult for Jaguar to produce—for a price. Price might be why Jaguar based this “concept” on the regular-production XJL Supercharged, with its 470-hp V-8, and not the special-order, 510-hp XJ Super Sport model.

In any case, if both Jaguar and the Pebble Beach Concours exist 75 years from now—and provided that California neither falls into the ocean nor bans automobiles entirely—perhaps Jaguar will celebrate its 150th anniversary by again appearing on the lawn as a featured marque. While the slammed XJ75 Platinum seems just a touch crass next to a lineup of curvy, classic Jags, it nonetheless possesses the special air of car angling for a spot on the 18th fairway.
