Maserati is set to build a midsize sport luxury sedan to rival the likes of the BMW 5 Series/M5, Mercedes CLS/AMG, Jaguar XF/XFR, and Cadillac CTS/CTS-v. The car is smaller than the Quattroporte, which will continue. It will go on market about 2014, probably as a '15 model in the U.S. Although it's in the product plan, there's no frozen design (one possible look is depicted in the illustration), and running prototypes would be years away. Maserati wants to become a "relevant player" within its chosen luxury segments. Adding the new model would allow it to strengthen dealer coverage and brand visibility. The all-new car is part of Maserati's 2010-'14 business plan, which Fiat Group CEO Sergio Marchionne recently revealed to investors.

German tuner makes a dark art out of the Gran Turismo S while dialing up output to nearly 500 HP

If there’s a slowdown in the auto market and a shift in the public’s focus from mph to mpg, it won’t be reflected at the Frankfurt auto show. To a roster of debuts already boasting a pair of poster-worthy Porsche debutantes and a duo of 450-plus-hp BMW hybrids, Maserati is adding its newest model, the 433-hp 2010 GranCabrio.

Before we get into the 2006 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT, we figured we'd tell you a story. We assure you it has a point that pertains to Maserati's latest 393-horsepower super sedan, but if skipping ahead is your thing, now's the time.

The current Maserati line-up includes the Quattroporte, the GranTurismo, and the GranCabrio, but things are about to get a little more populated with addition of a new sedan and a new SUV. The company has already begun developing these models and we should start see the fruits of their labor sometime in 2012, with the last model - the SUV - arriving in 2014. Before that, a new generation Quattroporte will be coming off of the production block, followed by a smaller model that will take on the likes of the BMW 5-Series.

The aerodynamic package comes with a plethora of carbon fiber components, including new front spoiler lips attached to both sides of the production front apron, a radiator grille surround, a rocker panel trim, a rear spoiler lip, and a diffuser for the standard bumper. Also included in the exterior look is a new set of alloy wheels, size 21- and 22-inch for the front and rear, respectively. The three-piece wheels with five double spokes are available in any desired color and can be coated with carbon fiber upon request.
