2011 Lexus IS 350C F Sport Special Edition
When we got our turn with the new Lexus F-Sports Edition, we weren’t all that impressed with the suped up IS 350C. Lexus had basically taken their boring sedan and juiced it up just for the sheer sport of it and, as it turns out, a geek on steroids still isn’t all that cool.

Wait, wasn’t it just a few days ago that Geiger Cars unveiled their Mustang Shelby GT640 "Golden Snake"? Now it’s become apparent that the tuning firm is out to even the score by releasing a package for the Mustang’s key competitor, the Chevrolet Camaro SS? Well, we guess that is one way to keep things balanced between the two sides of the muscle car fanatics.

Spied! 2012 Ford Focus ST Track and Winter Testing
Spied! 2012 Ford Focus ST Track and Winter Testing

Now that the 2012 Ford Focus is out in showrooms for the U.S. masses, it's time to focus (pun intended) on what enthusiasts are excited about -- the upcoming ST model. These latest spy shots snapped on the Nurburgring and in cold weather are evidence that Ford is hard at work fine tuning its new hot hatch.
First up is the silver-colored tester caught during a 'Ring attack. Because the sheetmetal and body kit appear to be mostly stock and far from the stylish and aggressive treatment on the Tangerine Scream-colored concept model, this ST is uncamouflaged. A thin metal pipe for the center exhaust and the gray, smoked-out rims are the only ST giveaways.

Long-Term Test: 2006 Pontiac Solstice

So that's that.

After 12 months and more than 17,000 miles, the sun has finally set on our time with our long-term 2006 Pontiac Solstice. If you've read anything we've written about the Pontiac in the last year, you won't be surprised that we're not terribly broken up about the parting of ways with this little roadster. While it provided us with lots of wonderful photographs, the sexy-looking drop top wore us down over the long haul with high levels of interior noise, a jarring ride around town and a drivetrain that provided more vibration than enjoyable performance.

Reviewers have long cut Aston Martin too much slack. They'd concentrate on the cars' hand-built nature and thoroughly British pedigree as if that excused lousy quality, extreme weight, disappointing performance, inhumane ergonomics, trucklike chassis and hideous expense. Then, using the hoariest cliché, they'd apply the rhetorical coup de grace by reminding readers that James Bond drove one and that that pretty much sealed the greatness deal.

2012 Ford Focus U.S.-Spec - First Drive Review
2012 Ford Focus U.S.-Spec - First Drive Review

Ford was keen that we drive a preproduction 2012 Focus out of the public eye. That’s how we wound up near Potrero, California, separated from the Mexican border by nothing but a rocky brown hill. Well, that’s not exactly true. Between us and the border also stood an armada of maybe 500 U.S. Border Patrol vehicles, enough that any illegal alien probing the landscape would knock himself unconscious on a government-issue Ford Excursion or Chevy Suburban. We represented an additional hazard to cranial health, madly hurling a navy-blue Focus back and forth along State Route 94. Our progress was surely tracked by scores of agents wielding monster binoculars, who twice halted us at hastily erected roadblocks for “curiosity checks.” Which is how we became the very public spectacle that Ford so fervently hoped to avoid. Victory. (Once its cover was blown, we photographed the Focus in remote downtown L.A.).

2012 Dodge Charger
2012 Dodge Charger
The Dodge Charger caused quite a stir when it first debuted as a 2006 model, owing mostly to its heretical four doors, but the new Charger became a popular model for Dodge. Like many Chrysler brand cars though, it has suffered from a lack of updates as the Pentastar wrestled with bankruptcy woes and a transfer in ownership to Italy's Fiat. Based on these latest spy shots, it looks as though that's finally about to change.
