Long Term Update 5: 2010 Volkswagen Routan

We continue to experience déjà vu with the Routan. As we have mentioned in the past, the Volkswagen's brakes have the same warping problem as did our long-term Town & Country a few years ago.

The Golf R has been quoted as "the strongest Golf produced," but that doesn’t seem to be enough for Volkswagen as they have decided to match that strength up with some aesthetic upgrades as part of their

First Drive: 2011 Volkswagen Touareg U.S. Spec

A mere $1305 is all that separates the five-passenger 2011 Volkswagen Touareg from the seven-passenger Audi Q7. So who is really going to purchase a Volkswagen over a similarly priced Audi?
Long Term Update 2: 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Executive editor Ed Loh recently used the Routan as a tour bus, lugging six friends to major tourist spots in the Los Angeles area, including Philippe's the Original (best French dip sandwiches in town), Olvera Street, and Chinatown, plus Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Rodeo Drive, and the Farmers Market.

Volkswagen to purchase Alfa Romeo: Marchionne to sell to Germans?
The Italians are not enjoying this rumour at all: Volkswagen could be looking at a purchase of Alfa Romeo if Fiat were to sell the struggling brand.
Long Term Update 4: 2010 Volkswagen Routan

The staff has been impressed with the styling of the Volkswagen version of the Town & Country, agreeing that the Routan has a better-looking exterior than its Dodge or Chrysler siblings and also a more elegant-looking interior. Everyone was just as happy with the interior's versatility and amount of storage space. However, editors are torn over how different the suspension is (VW touts it as having European tuning).
Long Term Update 3: 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Assistant Web producer Scott Evans drove the Routan to the 2010 SEMA Show. He came back wondering about the van's raison d'etre.
"Volkswagen did an admirable job of dressing it up, but all of the Town & Country's ghosts haunt the Routan. The brakes are fried and make the whole vehicle shake when you get on them hard, and they aren't that great to begin with. Under even moderate braking, the console shakes violently, tossing off anything sitting on it and rattling like a paint mixer. To be fair, it handles pretty well for a minivan and the 4.0-liter V-6 is surprisingly strong. The transmission is about as smooth as they come and the ride quality is quite nice."
First Drive: 2012 Volkswagen Golf R
"This will be the most powerful Golf ever offered," says Andres Valbuena, VW's Golf product manager. "The last was the 250-horsepower Golf R32 [released in 2008]. The 2012 Golf R will have more power and greater fuel efficiency."
