The last time Buick turbocharged a Regal, it became a legend, an impossible act to follow. And yet, this new Regal CXL Turbo, with its European-bred poshness and tailoring, is the best new Buick in a long time, perhaps since the venerable Grand National. Today's Regal is attractive, reasonably priced to its competition, and at first glance, has an impressive list of equipment. But that's in the historical vacuum; against the rest of the world, most of the 2011 Regal turbo's performance doesn't pan out.

So much is different about the first production plug-in hybrid that we have loads of questions: How do you "break in" an engine that may serve only occasional use? BMW's "Project i" group, a self-described think tank, has been working on electric mobility since 2007. One tangible result was the two-seat Mini E, a car that’s to be followed by the electrified BMW 1-series ActiveE, a small fleet of which will be leased this summer. While these are electric versions of existing cars, another focus was put on developing dedicated models. To house these vehicles, BMW has announced a new sub-brand called “BMW i.”

The coupe-styled SUV trend is about to land at Audi, having already touched vehicles of other luxury makes, including the BMW X6, Acura ZDX, and Land Rover Evoque. It’s rumored that the new vehicle will, predictably, be called the Q6, and slot between the Q5 and Q7 to eventually do battle directly with the X6 of archrival BMW. A test mule of that upcoming sporty SUV may have been caught in disguise, as these shots from our spy photographer show an Audi Q5 with some rather suspicious features.
