"The omnipresent traffic jams do sometimes present some unique opportunities, and when I'm stuck on the Great Parking Lot that is Interstate 405 in our long-term Ford, one of those is the ability to stay in fully electric mode for extended periods of time. The trick to keeping the Fusion in EV mode is extremely gentle application of the throttle. Electric-only acceleration performance isn't much slower than that of an automatic transmission in Drive. On some occasions, I was able to stay in EV mode for almost a mile. Staying in EV mode from a stop all the way to 20-25 mph is slightly harder than when accelerating from 25 to 35 mph or so, and keeping the gasoline engine off at speeds higher than that usually requires a nice tailwind or downhill slope."
And for those hybrid skeptics out there, ours has provided an impressive 35.7 combined mpg over the past 11 months.

The 2007 Honda Fit is a triumph of creativity, proof that good ideas don't have to be expensive. Within the Lilliputian dimensions of this five-door hatchback is a world of imagination that knows few limits. The way the 911 range unfolds with each generation has become as predictable as Mission: Impossible III. First comes the "base" Carrera and Carrera S; then the AWD Carrera 4; Cabriolet versions of those; followed by the hard-core GT3; then the Turbo; maybe a Targa; and finally the loony GT2. The Panamera, Porsche’s fourth model line after the 911, Boxster/Cayman, and Cayenne, has arrived after years of rumor, innuendo, announcements, and buzz. A four-door fastback sedan positioned at the top of the lineup, the Panamera was officially unveiled at the Shanghai auto show in April, and Porsche chose to host the first official drive at the picturesque Schloß Elmau near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, under the shadow of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain. The ritzy castle hotel is separated from the Munich airport by two hours of twisty country roads and several stretches of unlimited autobahn, and we explored it all from behind the wheels of the entry-level, rear-wheel-drive, 400-hp Panamera S and the 500-hp, all-wheel-drive Turbo. (There’s also an all-wheel-drive Panamera 4S.)
