Toyota Investigating Runaway Prius on California Highway
A man claims his Toyota Prius accelerated out of control and the California Highway Patrol finally stopped the vehicle before anyone was hurt. The most recent incident to emerge in the Toyota recall saga occurred in recent days as James Sikes claims that his Prius accelerated out of control as he was driving on the highway and the car eventually reached speeds in excess of 90 mph. Sikes says he tried the brakes and nothing was working. He called 911 and was told to apply the foot brake and the emergency brake at the same time. That maneuver lowered the vehicle speed to 50 mph.

At that point, a California Highway Patrol cruiser was able to get in front of the vehicle and slow down, acting as an additional braking system. Eventually, Sikes was able to take the key out of the ignition.

Toyota has dispatched special investigators to look at the vehicle and determine what, if anything, was actually wrong. This couldn't have come at a much worse time for Toyota as the company is struggling to regain its once impeccable reputation for quality and safety.

Sikes is likely to see quite a bit of celebrity treatment as a result of the incident, although at this point he has only been featured on local California news stations. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident and police were available to respond in time to assist Sikes in stopping the vehicle.
