Volkswagen in Formula One
VW Motorsport chief Wolfgang Duerheimer says he could see one of the VW Group brands entering the sport in 2018

Volkswagen is a very ambitious automaker...and so why not include an entry into Formula One racing in its 'world domination' plans.

VW Motorsport chief Wolfgang Duerheimer told German car magazine Auto, Motor und Sport that he "could imagine involvement in Formula One in 2018, when the company is at the forefront of the industry."

That is the year that VW plans to sell over 10 million vehicles a year and become the world's largest automaker.

Duerheimer didn't specify which brand it would be or whether the F1 team would fly the VW-badge flag.

"We have enough brands that could do that," he said.

A Lamborghini F1? That would be something to see.
