Volkswagen Up! Blue E-motion to get 95 mpg - report
Will feature the XL1 powertrain

Volkswagen's quest to become a leader in fuel-efficiency is about to take a major leap forward as a new report is indicating the Up! Blue E-motion will have an average fuel consumption of 2.97 L/100km (95 mpg imp / 79.1 mpg US).

To get this impressive figure, the car will reportedly adopt the same powertrain as the XL1 concept. This means we can expect a 47 hp (35 kW / 48 PS) 800cc two-cylinder turbodiesel engine and a 27 hp (20 kW / 27 PS) electric motor that is powered by a lithium-ion battery. Sadly, due to size restraints, the Blue E-motion's battery won't be large enough to allow the vehicle to run on electricity alone.

No word on when the car will be launched, but the standard Up! is slated to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
