For a trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, editor-in-chief Angus MacKenzie opted to drive the long-term 535i GT. "Odd that you'd pick a BMW as a cruiser, but that's exactly what the 535i GT is; this car's demeanor is nothing like that of an Ultimate Driving Machine. BMW has clearly changed focus for this car. As a cruiser, it's pleasant enough. The eight-speed auto means the engine is turning a relaxed 2000 rpm at 80 mph, and the lack of wind and road noise is impressive.

You'd have to be a real Aston Martin aficionado to spot the differences between the DB9 coupe and the new Virage. Even Aston design chief Marek Reichman concedes the differences between the two cars are quite subtle.
In case you're wondering, the Virage gets crisp new front fenders, more muscular fascias front and rear, new sill extensions, and even new rear fenders -- DB9 units that are re-stamped in a secondary process to pump them out over the wider rear tires. Changes inside include new stitching on the leather seats and upgraded switchgear.

The Legacy is an overall impressive car, but as time has passed and we've clocked more than 10,000 miles, we've discovered some minor flaws. Explains exec editor Ed Loh, "Subaru, it seems, tried to stretch the dollar too far in some places, leaving the following warts uncovered. Depressing the parking brake button creates a grinding, creaking moan -- like a rusty thumbscrew being turned or a heavy iron gate being shut -- with you on the inside. Doors feel light and hollow, especially the front passenger's. Instead of closing with a reassuring clunk, they flap shut with a bonk."

While Jaguar toils away at designing a new and "proper" C-segment car to replace the unlamented X-Type (it's three to four years away), the XF ranks as the volume model. As such, the company has been clucking and fussing over it almost constantly since its 2008 launch. For 2012, the interior and exterior get a good going-over. Exterior enhancements were predicted by the CXF concept that appeared just prior to the production launch, and they leverage technology that now makes some of that concept's styling cues production feasible. Examples include the LED daytime running lamp treatment (which has come to be expected on cars in the class), and the "Tron"-look light-blade taillamp illumination that now extends onto the decklid.

The neutral auditors from TÜV Süd have attested a high degree of environmental compatibility for the new Mercedes CLS. The coupe received environmental certification in accordance with the ISO 14062 standard. This is based on a life cycle analysis of the CLS, comprising a comprehensive evaluation of the automobile’s environmental impact. The new CLS will celebrate its market launch at dealers on January 29.

The folks over at PickupTrucks.com appear to have a video of what might be the 2012 Toyota Tacoma truck. The 2012 Tacoma is expected to be a refreshed model, but it’s almost impossible to distinguish the truck from the video from the 2011 model. Judging from screen shots below, the front end is definitely tweaked, but the side and rear end look identical to the current model.
