First Look: 2012 Buick Verano

Will Buick repeat its Enclave magic with the Verano? The Enclave shares its platform with the Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia. It also shares Buick-GMC dealership floors with the Acadia Denali, a premium crossover that comes with similar sticker prices. Yet GM says there's virtually no cross-shopping between the Enclave and Acadia Denali. Different customers, the company says, so Enclave sales continue to increase, four years into the product cycle.

Long-Term Test: 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI With Nav

The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta got off to an inauspicious start. When we first drove the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta SEL we said, "The reason it's hard to love and fully recommend the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is because it's a step backward in a number of ways. The cost-cutting scissors were out in force this time around and it's all too obvious where money was saved."

“Wider is better.” It’s best remembered as a tagline used over the decades by Pontiac, but Subaru might want to see if GM’s willing to give up the trademark. That’s because the Japanese company plans to debut a revised 2011 Impreza WRX with an increased track and wide-body sheetmetal lifted straight from its STI big brother. The official unveil will happen at the New York auto show.

Ford Ka - First Drive Review
Ford Ka - First Drive Review

Frugal and fun to drive, the Ford Ka is proof that American automakers can build great small cars when they want to. In Europe, where a gallon of gas can cost more than $9, Ford never really had much of a choice in the matter. When gas prices in the U.S. were on the rise, there was talk of possibly bringing the Ka to our shores, but those voices have since died down in the wake of buck-fifty fuel.

A Road Somewhere
A Road SomewhereThe squiggle on the map looks interesting-a road that, judging by the tightly packed contour lines, loops off Utah's Route 12 into some of the wilder parts of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. But it's the name of the road that caught my attention. How can we not take a road called Hell's Backbone? Mrs. MacKenzie, bless her, shrugs and says okay. I bring the Porsche Cayenne's ride-height setting back up to normal, switch the air suspension to comfort mode, and head off along the gravel
