There was only one Mustang that Ford had yet to recreate -- the baddest of all, the Boss. That is, until now. Meet the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302, the best, most well-rounded Mustang ever.
What exactly did Ford do to get such great performance? Lots. Engineers started with a standard 5.0-liter engine, but instead of just throwing a supercharger on it, Ford kept this engine au natural and made it a free-flowing, high-revving screamer with a new "runners-in-the-box" plenum/velocity stack combination. Ford used revised camshafts with a more aggressive grind, and CNC machined the intake, exhaust ports, and combustion chambers of the aluminum heads.

I must admit, when I first saw photos of the ninth-generation 2012 Civic, I was disappointed. I had been hoping for, well, more -- a more radical departure from the eighth gen, a car that, by the way, handily won our 2006 Car of the Year competition. Gen 8 earned the coveted calipers mostly because it was such -- you guessed it -- a radical departure from its predecessor. During 2006 COTY testing, I recall the Civic blowing away all the Motor Trend judges with its sleek, standout sheet metal, futuristic interior, and unbeatable value. In describing why we chose it as our COTY, we wrote: "Honda deserves a standing ovation for not playing it safe again, for crafting a compact car that's edgier and more soulful than it needs to be." BMW's "Project i" group, a self-described think tank, has been working on electric mobility since 2007. One tangible result was the two-seat Mini E, a car that’s to be followed by the electrified BMW 1-series ActiveE, a small fleet of which will be leased this summer. Fiat appears interested in making the most of Chrysler’s paltry product dowry by using one of the Pentastar’s promising future products, the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, as the basis for a new Alfa Romeo SUV.
